Action-The pathway T o Wealth

Have you been wishing to create wealth for many years? Isn't this a time to take action?
According to Jonathan Kua, the business unit director of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), EDB has a "3P" approach in looking an idea's potential, plan and proof - Got potential? Got plan? Got proof? This is a very effective approach. And simple.

Taking action is making your dream or idea become a tangible reality. It is actually a chain of activity consisting of six stages: DEPART - Dream, End, Plan, Action, Result, Tips.

1. Dream.
According to Glynis Nunn, "Everyone has dreams. But it is what you do with these dreams that are important. Dreams, once you make the decision to act on them can become reality." Dream with no action is just a dream.

Your dream is your idea, your vision. This is where the question "Got potential?" is raised and answered. Furthermore, you also analyze the best alternative or course of action to make the dream or idea becomes a reality.
What's your dream your life will be? What will you be doing 5 years from now? Where will you live?

2. End.
Stephen Covey had said, "Begin with the end in mind." The end is the goal you are aiming to achieve. The hardest part is proving that the idea can work. You may refer to the available statistics or analysis as your back up, to get qualitative or theoretical answers to the question "Got proof?"

Your goal must be STAMPS: Specific, Time-limited, Action-oriented, Measurable, Purpose-driven and Stretching.

· Specific. Your goal must be clearly spelled out, not vague.
· Time-limited. Your goal must have a time frame and deadline which will force you to watch and put your best efforts to fulfill.
· Action-oriented. Your goal must inspire action.
· Measurable. You must be able to measure the goal so that you have the idea in expressing it using figures of measurement.

· Purpose-driven. Your goal must be reasonable, i.e. it has a strong 'Why' behind it.
· Stretching. Your goal must be challenging, something which pushes you and yet is achievable.
Think of the goal you plan to implement in creating wealth - how much money do you want to achieve? When will you achieve it? What actions will you take? How do you measure your goal? What are your reasons in creating wealth? Is your goal challenging enough to stretch you to be a better person?

3. Plan.
To execute the goal, you need to think up a plan, to answer the question "Got plan?" Remember that failing to plan is planning to fail. According to Dennis Wholey, "Happy people plan actions, they don't plan results."

4. Action.
Harvey Mackay says, "Ideas without action are worthless." Setting goals by itself will not bring you success. You must back it up with lots of action - massive action - and undying determination. Remember what Robert Half said: "Acting on a good idea is better than just having a good idea." By acting on your dreams and goals, you make them become your destiny.

5. Results.
The results represent the real, tangible answer to the question "Got proof?" Remember that maximum results can only be accomplished after you take massive action with undying determination.

6. Tips.
This is the stage often disregarded. After completing the action and getting the result, people then move to next project/program. To continually learn, it is important that you test and validate your results. What are the lessons learned? What have been going well? What need to be improved? What is the next step?

By taking 6 steps actions in DEPART, you actually have started the journey in creating wealth. It is your continuous actions you take on daily basis that will bring you closer to your dream.
